So...how's your 2015 going?!
MINT OPS!
How's Your Mint Functioning?
Long time no post! I hope you enjoyed the Money Holiday Happiness Course. I've had really great feedback and already have ideas to make it even more fun and helpful next year. I'll share more toward the end of September!
We are now in Lennaion, that period of time between the last few months of winter transitioning to spring. This is the purpose of the harvest festivals from December: the stocking of the storehouse for the cold winter months until the growing season begins again at the vernal equinox.
This is also the usual time for the creation of the annual budgets in the business world. The planning of how much will be spent and projecting how much will come in for the year. January is also a great month to get your Mint system working for you or a brand new Mint in place.
You probably know by now that I look at money differently than other bookkeepers and accountants. I know from my many years of doing this that what makes sense to accountants and bookkeepers doesn't make a whole lot of sense to people out there living their lives, paying their bills, and exercising their pursuit of happiness. It's more of a necessary evil to most people and it should never be this way when it comes to your coins.
I want you to connect with your money in a way that makes the most sense for you
I like to help my clients erase from their minds all the past stuff they've been told about what money is. I help them create what I call their Mint which is their personal money system. It's the entire process, tailored for receiving coins, building a treasury, spending coins, and filing and saving all those papers and receipts (it's really easy now with a few simple electronic rules!).
This week, see your current money system as a Mint and you are the moneyer. This means you are the head of your Mint. You are the boss.
Now ask yourself these questions:
How's the system working overall?
What area feels "clunky" or the process seems to stop?
Where are things piling up?
Anything nagging you?
What brings you down?
What is working really well?
Maybe you dislike your current bank and the online banking is really frustrating. Research which banks offer superior online banking and then determine if switching makes sense for you. The difference in your life and to your coins can be extraordinarily positive (I speak from personal experience!).
Maybe you have a huge pile of unopened bills scattered around the house. Create your Mint "in-box" where you put all your incoming bills (both electronic and paper) and schedule a weekly time to go through your Mint's in-box and clear it out. Keep it separate from your regular in-box. Just doing this one thing will save you A LOT of frustration and wasted time and money in trying find bills or paying them late (and getting charged late payment fees).
Maybe you have no idea how much you really make and are afraid you'll never have enough to get out of debt or do what you really desire in life. This is where getting a basic bookkeeping system like Mint.com, Quicken, or one of the many, many, many (and I mean MANY) other automated systems in place NOW. They are so easy to use and intuitive. It's truly delightful to see everything automatically populated. Gone are the days of a manual ledger (although I still like those for big picture planning).
I want 2015 to be the BEST year for you and your Mint. So every Friday morning, I'll be sending you reminders, tips, and support to help you create a Mint that works for you and some really good tips on how to connect with your money and living your life. Have a great weekend, watch your coins, and I wish you many kairos moments!
Happy Minting!
